    Feedback given to students is also an essential part of instructional delivery. It is important that, as a teacher, I provide students with the information they need to improve, and to understand why they are receiving the grade that they did. I have also included a scan of a student speech rubric that was given back to provide explanation on the grade received and room for improvement throughout the speech unit. The final piece of feedback presented is written feedback given to students on their cross-curricular project graded by Ms. Heckman and myself. This feedback explains the strengths and weaknesses about each student in relation to the group, as well as their individual performance on the project. In this way, students are built up, while understanding where they can improve in the future.
    Assessment is a major component of the classroom, and it is important as the classroom instructor to see what students are learning. A variety of assessment methods are provided in my classroom so that students can use multiple strengths to demonstrate their learning. The typical test is provided with an example from Romeo and Juliet, where students are assessed on their understanding of the plot, characters, setting, literary terms, and major concepts introduced during the unit. The second are sample mini-writing assignments that are given to students to learn the basic concept of writing a response similar to the short-answer responses on the PSSAs. These responses are submitted on Moodle and test students’ basic understanding of literary terms discussed during their reading of Romeo and Juliet, as well as analyzing why Shakespeare uses these terms in the first place. The next assessment was created this year with the use of student laptops to create a travel commercial after reading The Odyssey. Students demonstrate collaboration and persuasion skills to create their commercial and demonstrate knowledge of the key concepts of the epic poem. The Wordle Project asks students to delve into their vocabulary to find key terms to create a visual “word cloud” of the novel Monster. Finally, the Think Tac Toe project puts students in control and allows them to choose their strengths in their final assessment for the Fiction Unit.

    to demonstrate what is considered a quality project on the various assignments. I have also included an exemplar for the Odyssey Commercial project, as well, demonstrating students' understanding of parody, iMovie, and collaboration skills. Exemplars are necessary to help students understand what is expected of them and what final product I am looking for.

    {banner.jpg}
    {miss_reeder2.jpg} My name is Kelley Reeder and I currently teach English grades 9 and 10, as well as Journalism Yearbook at James Buchanan High School. As a proud alum of JB, I have come back and have proudly been teaching for five years. Taking on such extra-curricular activities as serving as the yearbook advisor (a full-time job in and of itself!), Spanish Club advisor, an assistant Drama Club advisor, Powder Puff Boys' Cheerleading coach for two years, Publicist for the school plays, and helping with the student-run Relay for Life, my primary motivation is to help the students learn about English and life both in and outside the classroom.
    Teaching is a true passion for me. I love every single moment that I have with my students, even on the toughest of days! Not only do I love the subject that I teach, but I love working with students and helping them hone their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to prepare them for the future, whether that takes them to college or directly into the work force. I strive to maintain a rigorous learning environment where students can laugh and have fun during learning through differentiating the various activities and lessons that I deliver in my classroom.

    Professionalism{banner_5.jpg}
    Professionalism is an important aspect of the teaching profession, as a teacher is a role model for students. Professionalism encompasses many different aspects of the teaching career, and reflects on the teacher's behavior inside the classroom and the school community as a whole. From record keeping, contact with parents, fellow faculty, and administrators, to observations and understanding of the students, a teacher's job entails many aspects that fall under this category. To demonstrate professionalism, a teacher must show competency in the classroom, as well as in his or her interactions with the numerous people they come across on a daily basis. Teaching is a social profession, and this aspect of the job is an ever-prevalent and important part as a teacher strives to demonstrate competency.
    The first example of professionalism includes the monthly reflection journal. Reflection for a teacher is very important, as he or she works to become a better teacher after each lesson. Reflection allows a teacher to recognize strengths and weaknesses and decide on areas that can be improved for the future. A good teacher will think about a lesson; a great teacher will notice ways to use their experiences to shape their future lessons to meet the needs of their students. This journal demonstrates my own reflection and insights into improving my own classes.

    Planning & Preparation{banner_4.jpg}
    {Preparation.png}
    A teacher must always have a plan, a road map for where students are going on a given day, week, month, and year. The end result is what a teacher must always work towards, and without planning and preparation on the teacher’s part, the classroom and learning environment suffer. A teacher must create plans and set goals on what students should understand and be able to demonstrate by the end of a lesson, unit, and year.
